اَلنُّور
an-Nūr

The Light

Light of the heavens and the earth, and light of hearts.

The tongue
From n-w-r; nūr, light. Not a visual attribute: the light by which something is seen.
The reason
Allāh (اَللَّٰه) is the Light of the heavens and the earth (Quran 24:35). He is that by which all becomes manifest: without Him, nothing would be seen, hence nothing would be.
The Sufi meaning
An-Nūr is also the inner light of the heart — knowledge by unveiling (kashf (الكَشْف)). You do not kindle this light: you withdraw the veils, and it is there.
The servant's portion
Be a light, modestly: illumine around you, not too much, just enough that one may see.
