اَلْمُقْسِط
al-Muqsiṭ
The Equitable
Who renders to each his due.
The tongue
From q-s-ṭ; qisṭ is equity, the just portion. An active form: the One who balances.
The reason
Different from al-ʿAdl (اَلْعَدْل), which is essential Justice: al-Muqsiṭ is equity in act, distributed — He renders to each one what he is due to receive, neither more nor less.
The Sufi meaning
Divine equity often reveals itself beyond appearances. What seems unequal to you today balances within an economy vaster than you see.
The servant's portion
Be equitable in small things: in the apportioning of time, of attention, of speech. No one should be wronged by you.
