al-Qādir
The Powerful
Who can do all that He wills.
The tongue
From q-d-r; qudra is the capacity to act. Qādir, an active form: the One who can.
The reason
His power is without limit: neither resistance that obstructs Him, nor effort that costs Him.
The Sufi meaning
To feel al-Qādir is to cease despairing: what is humanly impossible is not so for Him.
The servant's portion
Do not say it is impossible too soon. The door will not open of itself — but it can open.
