Name 69 / 100 · ✦ Plenitude
اَلصَّمَد
aṣ-Ṣamad
The Impenetrable Absolute
Full, without hollow, toward whom all turns.
The tongue
A rare word, with a twofold sense: without hollow or flaw — hence full, self-sufficient; and the one toward whom one turns in need.
The reason
He needs nothing, and all things need Him. He has neither hunger, nor thirst, nor sleep, nor lack of any kind.
The Sufi meaning
Aṣ-Ṣamad is the Name of the ultimate Refuge: when all the doors are shut, one turns toward the One who has no door, because He is wholly welcome.
The servant's portion
Turn toward Him in need — first. And learn, in your turn, to be a refuge for whoever turns toward you.
