اَلْحَيّ
al-Ḥayy
The Living
Life in itself, without beginning.
The tongue
From ḥ-y-y; ḥayy, the Living — not living from something, but Living in essence.
The reason
His life is not a state, it is His very being. All life is a reflection, never a copy.
The Sufi meaning
Al-Ḥayy is one of the two Names of the Verse of the Throne (Āyat al-Kursī (آيَةُ الكُرْسِيّ)), with al-Qayyūm (اَلْقَيُّوم). To invoke them together is to take root in what does not die.
The servant's portion
Do not place your life in what dies. And within what dies, seek the living.
