اَلْمُعِيد
al-Muʿīd

He who Brings Back

Who makes return to the point of origin.

The tongue
From ʿ-w-d; ʿaud is the return, the resumption. An active form: He makes return.
The reason
All that He has begun will return to Him: innā li-Llāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn — “We belong to God, and it is to Him that we return.”
The Sufi meaning
The whole way lies in this verb: to return. The servant creates nothing, he returns. And at the end, it is still al-Muʿīd who brings him back, more than his own steps.
The servant's portion
Know where you are going: not forward, but toward the origin. The goal is also the source.
