From b-d-ʾ: to begin. An active form: the One who inaugurates, who makes begin.

The reason

Every thing that begins to exist, He is its first author. He does not draw His own beginning from another.

The Sufi meaning

At the beginning of every right thought, of every impulse toward the good, there is He — the first cause, with no cause behind it.

The servant's portion

Acknowledge that you are the origin of nothing. The ideas that come to you, the strengths that carry you — all have a source upstream of you.
