He to whom one entrusts one's affairs.

The tongue

From w-k-l; the wakīl is the one to whom a matter is handed over so that he may carry it through. A faʿīl (فَعِيل) form: He is essentially worthy of this handing-over.

The reason

To Him all affairs may be entrusted: material, moral, spiritual. He loses nothing of what is handed to Him.

The Sufi meaning

Tawakkul derives from this Name: not passivity, but the gesture of handing over after having done one's part. You do what you must; the outcome, you lay down.

Learn to let go of results. You are not the director of the world — and that is good news.
