Present to every being at every instant.
The tongue
From sh-h-d: to be present, to see, to attest. Shahāda is at once presence and testimony.
The reason
He is present to all things and attests to all things: not an outside witness, but a presence inward to the event.
The Sufi meaning
Ash-Shahīd is the great antidote to solitude: you have never acted alone, never suffered alone, never loved alone. You have always been seen.
The servant's portion
Live as though someone saw you — for it is so. And bear witness to the true, even against yourself.
