Who gives without recalling His gifts.

The tongue

From k-r-m; karam unites material generosity and inner nobility. The karīm gives, and he gives well — without humiliating, without reminding.

The reason

He gives before being asked, gives what one would not have known to ask for, gives above merit.

The Sufi meaning

Al-Karīm does not make the one who receives feel that he receives. The best generosity is the one we forget having shown — as He does.

The servant's portion

Give with a hand that knows not what the other gives; and forget at once what you have given.
