اَلْحَسِيب
al-Ḥasīb
He who Suffices
He suffices for the one who leans upon Him.
The tongue
From ḥ-s-b; a twofold sense: to reckon (He keeps the exact account) and to suffice (He alone is a sufficient reckoning).
The reason
For the one for whom He suffices, nothing more is lacking. For the one for whom He does not suffice, nothing will ever suffice.
The Sufi meaning
Ḥasbunā Allāh (اَللَّٰه) wa niʿma-l-Wakīl (اَلْوَكِيل) — “God suffices us, and what an excellent guardian”: the formula of moments of trial, when every support gives way save that one.
The servant's portion
Learn to say this is enough for me. It is the beginning of freedom.
