Who guards and conserves all things.
The tongue
From ḥ-f-ẓ; ḥifẓ is the keeping — the kind one has for what is precious. The ḥifẓ of the Quran is its memorisation: one keeps it within oneself.
The reason
He preserves the existent in being at every instant. He also keeps the deed — not one act is lost in His memory.
The Sufi meaning
Your story is not lost: all the good you have done, all that you have suffered unjustly, is kept. Nothing evaporates.
The servant's portion
Be a keeper: of your word, of your promises, of the dignity of others, of the things entrusted to you.
