He who Humiliates

Who strips glory from the one who arrays himself in it.

The tongue

From dh-l-l; a causative form: to make dhalīl — base, brought low.

The reason

He humbles those who swell with a dignity that is not their own. The proud one fashions his own downfall.

The Sufi meaning

Humility accepted before God protects from the humiliation inflicted by men. Whoever bows of his own will need no longer be bowed down.

The servant's portion

Never place your glory in what can be taken from you.
