He who Hears All

No voice, no murmur escapes Him.

The tongue
A faʿīl (فَعِيل) form of s-m-ʿ; al-Kāfījī insists: He hears the murmur of the ant upon the black rock in the dark of night.
The reason
His hearing is not an organ: it is a presence to every vibration of being. Silence too is heard.
The Sufi meaning
When the heart is heavy and the tongue falls silent, know that He already hears. The highest prayer is sometimes the one we cannot put into words.
The servant's portion
Be attentive: listen before you speak, listen more than you speak, listen to what is not said.
