The Guide to Right Direction

Whose direction leads to rectitude.

The tongue

From r-sh-d; rushd is rectitude, maturity, the sense of the right path. Different from hidāya (هِدَايَة): rushd stresses the soundness of the direction taken.

The reason

All His ways lead to the good, even those that seem contrary. His direction is never mistaken — ours, sometimes, does not know how to read it.

The Sufi meaning

To ask for rushd is to ask not to take the wrong path once already on the path. Many have guidance and still lose the direction.

The servant's portion

Seek spiritual maturity (rushd) more than worldly wisdom. Worldly wisdom impresses; rushd transforms.
