The Inventor without Model
Who creates without prior model.
The tongue
From b-d-ʿ; ibdāʿ is to create an entirely new thing, without precedent. Different from khalq (to create from a prior measure).
The reason
Before Him, there was nothing from which He could have drawn inspiration; the models, it is He who set them down.
The Sufi meaning
Each day is badīʿ: it has never existed before. Each face you cross is an original. Creation is today, not yesterday.
The servant's portion
Live each day as a new day; and dare, in your life, to create what did not exist before you.
