اَلْغَنِيّ
al-Ghanī

The Self-Sufficient

Rich by essence, without need.

The tongue
From gh-n-y; ghinā (غِنَى), richness, sufficiency. Ghanī, the one who has need of nothing.
The reason
He is rich in Himself, and we can add nothing to Him by our worship, nor subtract anything from Him by our neglect.
The Sufi meaning
Whether you pray to Him or not, He is no greater for it; but you become more yourself. Worship serves the servant, not the Lord.
The servant's portion
Tend toward inner ghinā: poverty toward creatures and inner richness. That is freedom.
