He who Welcomes the Return

Who returns ceaselessly toward the one who returns toward Him.

The tongue

From t-w-b; tawba (التَّوْبَة), the return. An intensive form: He returns toward the penitent — even before the penitent returns toward Him.

The reason

Human repentance is preceded by a divine movement: He turns His face toward us, and it is this that allows us to turn toward Him.

The Sufi meaning

Every conversion, every spiritual resumption, is a response to an inner call — which is already at-Tawwāb at work.

The servant's portion

Return — each time you stray. And welcome the return of others: do not throw their past in their face.
