The Worthy of Praise

Praised for Himself, independently of all praise.

The tongue
From ḥ-m-d; ḥamd is praise — not only shukr (الشُّكْر) (thanks for a gift received), but the acknowledgement of excellence in itself.
The reason
He is praised whether or not He is praised. The whole of creation, by its very existence, is a silent praise.
The Sufi meaning
Al-ḥamdu li-Llāh: praise belongs to God, in every situation. To say it in joy is easy; to say it in trial — that is the way.
The servant's portion
Praise before you ask; acknowledge the good before the lack.
