The Most Holy

Pure of all imperfection, transcending all that the mind can conceive.

The tongue

An intensive form of q-d-s: to be pure, set apart, sanctified. Al-Kāfījī: “He is so holy that every description diminishes Him.”

The reason

No analogy reaches Him, no flaw touches Him. He is beyond the like and the contrary.

The Sufi meaning

Al-Quddūs is the Name that purifies the heart of its inner idols — including the images one forms of God Himself.

The servant's portion

Purify your heart, not only of fault, but also of the concepts that claim to enclose the Real.
