al-Wāsiʿ
The Immense
His mercy and His knowledge embrace all things.
The tongue
From w-s-ʿ; saʿa is amplitude, extent — the opposite of narrowness (ḍīq).
The reason
The whole universe does not fill His amplitude; human miseries added together do not exhaust His mercy.
The Sufi meaning
Narrowness outside, but amplitude within: the servant of al-Wāsiʿ knows that the inner space has no walls.
