اَلْغَفُور
al-Ghafūr

The All-Forgiving

Whose forgiveness covers the deepest faults.

The tongue
The same root as al-Ghaffār (اَلْغَفَّار) (gh-f-r: to veil), but a faʿūl (فَعُول) form that underlines the depth of the forgiveness rather than its repetition.
The reason
No sin is too old, no fault too black, not to be covered by His forgiveness, provided the heart returns.
The Sufi meaning
Al-Ghaffār repeats, al-Ghafūr penetrates: He is not content to efface, He transforms the scar itself into light.
The servant's portion
When you forgive, go to the very bottom: a surface forgiveness reopens.
