The Immeasurable

His greatness exceeds all measure.

The tongue

From ʿ-ẓ-m; ʿaẓama is greatness in majesty, the kind that inspires respect and trembling.

The reason

All created greatness is small beside His; and all created greatnesses added together do not form even one atom of His.

The Sufi meaning

To meditate on this Name restores to their just measure the great cares that occupy the soul: beside al-ʿAẓīm, what seemed enormous shrinks.

The servant's portion

Keep a sense of proportion: do not make much of what is small, nor little of what is great.
