al-Fattāḥ

The Opener

He who opens the ways and the hearts.

The tongue
From f-t-ḥ: to open, to conquer, to unveil. An intensive form: He ceaselessly opens what seemed shut.
The reason
He opens the doors of the world (subsistence, ways, encounters) and the doors of the soul (understanding, repentance, unveiling).
The Sufi meaning
The fatḥ is, in the Sufi way, spiritual opening — the moment when a truth long approached suddenly opens. No one can bring it about; one only makes oneself openable.
The servant's portion
Open what you can open: a closed door, a shut heart, a broken dialogue — and leave to God what you cannot open.
