al-Bāriʾ
The Maker
He who distinguishes each being, draws it apart.
The tongue
From b-r-ʾ: to separate, to distinguish from nothingness. Where al-Khāliq (اَلْخَالِق) conceives, al-Bāriʾ distinguishes.
The reason
No being is confused with another: each soul is unique within creation.
The Sufi meaning
Your face never existed before you and will never exist again: it is a signature of al-Bāriʾ.
The servant's portion
Honour the singularity of others — do not reduce them to a category.
