Laṭāʾif al-Minan

“The subtleties of the gifts.” The living account of the Shādhilī way in transmission.

← Back to Iskandarī

A way marked by sobriety, shukr, adab and service. It does not seek the brilliance of miracles, but the rightness of the heart in ordinary life. It accepts work, family, trade — and sees in them the very ground of transformation.

Abū al-Ḥasan al-Shādhilī (d. 656/1258) → Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Mursī (d. 686/1287) → Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh al-Iskandarī (d. 709/1309). Three masters, one silsila, an attentiveness to the baraka that passes through companionship and adab.

The book recounts extraordinary gifts — visions, unveilings, apparent rescues — yet Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh speaks of them soberly: the karāmāt are not the goal, they are signs left along the way to reassure the heart of the companion. The way remains that of servanthood, not of the extraordinary.

Question for today

To whom — living, departed, present in memory — do I owe a particular adab today?

The complete manuscript exists in Arabic (al-Maktaba al-ʿAṣriyya edition). The OCR and the integration of translated passages will be carried out progressively.
