The board

Read the board as a path, not a test.
A square states a state. An arrow shows what raises. A chain or a grapnel shows what makes one fall. Open a square, read its mechanism, then look at what it can give birth to or undo.
The colour indicates the square's family. Turn on the movements to see the ascents, chains and grapnels already confirmed in the text.

Square 1 (non-being) is at the bottom right; square 100 (the ultimate temptation, al-shayṭān) at the top left. The path is not a mechanical climb: one rises, falls, returns. The arrows signal progressions; the chains and grapnels signal occasions of fall or regression.
